Schooling Update

Just a quickie here. Syl got into her first choice magnet school, though now we would prefer her to be at her second choice magnet. Thus begins a confusing switching up through the St. Louis public school system, only to possibly go private, depending on that situation. The annoying hang-ups and bad timing equate to this: we would have to accept the magnet letter, regardless of our private school outcome, because magnet letters are due a week before private school letters go out. You'd think they'd time these things accordingly. But what do you expect? It's only our future adults that our world depends on to make this a better place! Screw 'em, education isn't that important.

Yes, Syl also got into Washington, but after some research and some calls to the school (that were very poorly handled), we want to look into Stix, which was her next choice. We have a tour there on Monday. But like Jessica, I'm just not sure if we're ready to have her gone full time. Wouldn't that be funny if we all were at Washington!!! Small internet world.

Yeah. It's totally messed up that the financial aid letters for private schools go out after the deadline for getting into most public schools. But can you accept the position at the magnet school and then back out if the other school works out?

My son turned three in April and then started school full time that following August. I wasn't ready at all. But if you get them into a school that is a good match for their learning style, and you see how much they are thriving, after about the first week you don't second guess you decision to send them full time. At least that's how it was for me!

I'll be interested in hearing more about your thoughts on Washington. I toured stix and wasn't blown away. It was fine. But I really have nothing to compare it to.

Is Kennard a toughie to get into these days? I really can't rave enough about the time my brother and I spent there.
