Sylvia Plays the Violin

At Syl's school, they provide violin and music lessons once a week. It's awesome to get her playing music, though there's some pulling teeth to get her to practice. Suzuki method asks for 5 minutes a day, but we are lucky to manage the 15 minutes a week her teacher asks for.
Besides all that, she has seriously improved since the winter concert and we were all so proud of her last night. Her favorite part of the evening? Getting those $4 flowers from Trader Joe's. She's so easy.

Sylvia, my first, is now 6

This entire week has been a blur of hastily thrown together mayhem. It's hectic, it's confusing, it's exhausting, and it's draining, but May is upon me and I have to bear down and deal with the pressures. Alas, amidst the chaos and storms, Sylvia had a birthday. I put the camera down and enjoyed my daughter all day. She got to play with her cousins, I took her and a few close friends to see a movie, we ate junk food all day, and had dinner with the extended family.
Things that Sylvia is doing/enjoying right now at age 6:
~reading, lots of stuff/signs/books/notes
~swimming (she is now successfully floating on her back on her own and putting her face in the water. hopefully the whole body will be next)
~writing. she enjoys leaving notes for us, writing apologies, making fake invites to pretend parties, ect
~dancing. in her class and at home, girl loves to shake it
~playing music. dave hooked up the keyboard again and she loves sitting at it, making up songs, and singing to them. love this about her.
~trying her best to deal with her highly demanding little brother
~counting down the moments for school to be out
~feeding and tending to the chickens (who are now nearly full grown and huge)

I can't believe I've been a mother for 6 years to such an amazing human. Happy 6th darling!
